Toronto, January 21, 2016 – The 2015 holiday season found the team at Sheraton Parkway Toronto North Hotel & Suites banding together again for their sixth year to raise critical funds – more than $10,000 – to help food-insecure children and families in northern Ghana.

The $10,000 gift was raised through an employee holiday fundraising campaign. Staff donated more than $2,500, and owner Jason Kaptyn generously matched all employee gifts on a 3:1 basis on behalf of the Kaptyn family.
Additionally, the funds were raised for Canadian Feed The Children’s (CFTC) Resilient and Sustainable Livelihoods Transformation (RESULT) project, which is leveraged 18:1 by the Government of Canada. That means Sheraton Parkway Hotel helped donate and unlock an incredible $194,000 in funding for families in northern Ghana this year alone.
The team raised funds through a series of creative initiatives including a loose change jar for employee contributions; two charity breakfasts where the Executive Chef created a special experience for fellow employees; bake sales; and several raffles including a TV raffle at their Staff Appreciation Gala held on January 15, 2016th.

Sheraton Parkway Hotel is celebrating an exciting milestone having helped provide over $1-million dollars through government-matching by donating over $95,000 for food security projects in Ghana and Ethiopia over the last six years.
Their donation this year will support CFTC’s RESULT project, which strengthens poor rural communities in the northern regions of Ghana by increasing and diversifying farmers’ crops, building on existing sources of income, and establishing new income opportunities. Through these initiatives, farm families become more resilient to climate change and learn how to earn better prices for their crops; and women gain access to empowering resources.
It is only with the generous support of partners like Sheraton Parkway Hotel and the Government of Canada that CFTC can further this important work in northern Ghana. CFTC is grateful to the Sheraton Parkway Hotel for their commitment and partnership in helping children thrive.
